New Doing Business Report on South East Europe

    Doing Business in South East Europe 2008 covers 22 cities in seven economies: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia.  The subnational report provides detailed data on business regulation, and benchmarks four areas of regulation that are subject to local jurisdiction and enforcement: starting a business, obtaining licenses, registering property, and enforcing contracts.

FP6: Analysis of FP evaluators reveals low participations of evaluators from WBC

    The number of experts evaluating projects in the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) is remarkably low for the Western Balkan (WB) region: between 2003 and 2006 there were in total only 58 evaluators from the region. The file that this analysis is based on, is accesible on Cordis website: http://cordis.europa.eu/fp6/experts.htm. The analysis is based on nationality affiliation stated in the file.

Steering Platform Meeting in Ljubljana

    The Steering Platform meeting was successfully held in Ljubljana on June 13, 2008. The Slovenian presidency has well established the meeting as a point of information sharing, stocktaking and networking. Commisioner Potocnik sent his message to the participants through Alessandro Damiani and Tania Friederichs from the Commission Services: he emphasises the strong ownership of the platform, the stronger use of the steering aspects in the process of integration and reaffirms the committment to take up the inputs from the platform.
    The Montenegrin co-chair highlighted the achivements of the past years as 5 years ago regional cooperation did not exist and now the activities show concrete results and determination to persist in the integration. The Slovenian co-chairs highlighted the aspect of partnership and trust building.

    As already presented on this website, the publication "Innovation Infrastructure in the Western Balkan Countries" contains 6 thematic reports providing an overview of the situation as regards “Innovation Infrastructures” such as clusters, technology and innovation centres, technological and science parks, business-start-up centres/ technology incubators and some further related organizations in the Western Balkan Countries. Besides the mapping, some common recommendations were issued.
First ICT Sector Database will be implemented in Croatia

    A new collaboration was recently initiated between the Croatian Chamber of Economy and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing. This collaboration represents only the first step in a process that will bring the Croatian scientific and the economic sectors closer, and will also lead to the creation of the first Croatian ICT sector database.
