WBC-INCO.NET Consultation Session on ICT

Public
Date and Time: 10 December 2008–10 December 2008
Venue: Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Belgrade, Serbia

The aim of this event was to discuss research priorities in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), which are considered being of common interest for the European Union and the Western Balkan countries (WBC). These were selected as input for future FP7 Work Programmes and for the Joint Call in the scope of the South East European ERA.NET PLUS (www.plus.see-era.net) project. Furthermore, the ICT research priorities will be suggested and discussed as input for further development of national and regional ICT strategies in the WBC, and future major generic activities will be defined.

The consultation session addressed ICT stakeholders such as leading researchers and experts from academia and industry and representatives from WBC Ministries dealing with strengths and weaknesses of ICT research in the WBC. As part of the preparation, national background reports for Croatia and Montenegro were produced; for the other countries, results of the SCORE-project was used (www.score-project.eu).

The consultation session was part of WBC-INCO.NET’s Task T2.4 of the Work Package 2 “Priority setting to structure participation in FP”. It is designed as preparatory meeting for the Conference “Towards an Information Society for the Western Balkans”, held on December 11 and 12, 2008 in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce in Belgrade. This Conference was jointly organised by the two European projects WBC-INCO.NET and the SCORE project (Strengthening the Strategic Cooperation between the EU and Western Balkan region in the field of ICT research, www.score-project.eu) with the support of the European Commission.

Materials and results of the first day session, held exclusively under the umbrella of the WBC-INCO.NET project can be downloaded here. The presentations from the following two days, when the joint conference took place, can be found here, but also at the SCORE project web-site, at: http://score-project.eu/conference.html
